RainCheck is a weather protection guarantee available exclusively from Sunquest, Holiday House and Fun Sun Vacations that entitles you to a future travel voucher representing the base cost of your holiday (excluding transportation-related fees, taxes and surcharges and travel agency booking fees and charges), should it rain for more than half your holiday. Promotoion is effective for bookings made from Saturday Nov. 15, 2008 onwards.
• For example, if it rains half inch or more each day for 4 days of a 1 week vacation, we'll give you a credit for your next vacation (taxes excluded).
• Rainfall is measured by an independent company in the city or at the international airport in the destination where you landed.
• Within 30 days of returning, just check our website and see if you qualify.
• If you qualify, you'll immediately receive an e-mail confirmation, and a future travel voucher for the price of your vacation (less taxes) will be sent to your travel agent.
• To redeem your free* vacation, decide where and when you want to go and book by September 30, 2009.
How it works:
This plan (“RainCheck”) is applicable to certain holidays provided by the following Thomas Cook Canada Inc. (“TCC”) tour operator brands: Sunquest, Holiday House and Fun Sun Vacations.
The RainCheck entitles you to a future credit voucher in the amount of the base travel cost paid to TCC, as per your invoice, (excluding transportation-related fees, taxes and surcharges and travel agency booking fees and charges) for your Sunquest package holiday, or for your Holiday House or Fun Sun (min. 3 nights /max. 21 nights) hotel booking, in the event that it rains more than half an inch (0.5”/12.7mm) per day for half of your vacation.
For clarity, you qualify for a future credit voucher in the event that the specified amount of rain is measured each day of at least half of the total number of days in your Measurement Period. In the event that your Measurement Period is an odd number, it must rain for half the days in the Measurement Period, rounded up (travel days included). For example, a 7-night/8-day vacation will require 4 days of rain to qualify, a 14-night/15-day vacation will require 8 days of rain to qualify. Rain days do not have to be consecutive. Rainfall will be measured at an officially designated Weather Station.
“WeatherBill” is the independent third-party weather risk management firm.
“Measurement Period” means each day (12:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m.) of the trip you originally purchased through TCC based on the departure and return dates as stated in your travel documents. For hotel-only bookings, this means only the time period for which your accommodation is booked through TCC, as per your travel documents. If the Data Provider does not report weather data for your Weather Station using a 12.00 a.m. to 11.59 p.m. period, then each day in the Measurement Period will mean the 24-hour period commencing at the time closest to 12.00 a.m. for which the Data Provider reports weather data for your Weather Station .
“Weather Station” means the weather monitoring station located at the Destination Airport or another monitoring station used by the Data Provider to measure the rainfall at your destination.
“Data Provider” means the independent third party weather data provider used by WeatherBill.
“Destination Airport” means the destination airport for your package holiday travel purchased through TCC as indicated in your travel documents.
For example – if your destination airport is Sangster International in Montego Bay and your trip is 7 days long, you will be eligible to redeem if it rains more than ½ an inch per day at the Sangster International Airport Weather Station for 4 or more days of your trip.
If your booking is on a hotel only basis with TCC, then the measurement will be taken from an official Weather Station which is in the proximity to the first accommodation you booked through TCC. This will not necessarily be the airport to which you arrived or departed.
Additional Terms: You acknowledge and agree that: (i) the measurement of rainfall at the Weather Station will be determined exclusively by WeatherBill, irrespective of any conflicting weather data published by other sources; (ii) RainCheck does not constitute insurance and your right to receive a credit is not dependent upon or linked to any actual loss that you may suffer; (iii) No credit will be issued if WeatherBill is unable to provide weather data due to Force Majeure, or any unforeseen event, preventing the Weather Station from reporting weather data; (iv) You agree that TCC does not assume any responsibility, and is not liable, for the costs or other consequences that arise out of or result from inclement weather conditions at any time; (v) RainCheck has no cash value and is non-transferable
Booking RainCheck: All passengers on a booking must either purchase or decline RainCheck; children 12 and under sharing the same room with two full paying adults can obtain RainCheck free of charge provided those adults have purchased RainCheck.
The Claim Process: If it rains during your holiday, upon your return, you may check the relevant TCC website (i.e. Sunquest, Fun Sun or Holiday House) for the link to WeatherBill. You must make your application for a credit voucher by completing a request for voucher form within 30 days of the return date of your vacation or end of the hotel-stay portion booked through TCC. If the claim is validated by WeatherBill, you will receive an e-certificate and an e-voucher will be sent to your travel or booking agent within 3-10 days. The voucher will include the terms for the new booking which must be booked by September 30th, 2009. If your claim is NOT validated i.e. there was insufficient rainfall during the Measurement Period, you will receive an e-mail response.
The Future Travel Credit Voucher: The travel voucher must be redeemed by September 30th, 2009, with your travel agent or the TCC tour operator through which the original vacation was booked. You may rebook as soon as you receive the Future Travel Voucher for anything available in our TCC reservations systems, but your booking must be with the same TCC tour operator brand as your original booking, and must be booked by September 30th, 2009. The voucher has a one-time application. Vouchers cannot be exchanged for cash; vouchers cannot be partially refunded ; vouchers cannot be transferred to another person; vouchers may be issued individually to the persons on the file, so that they can travel independently in the future.
Not included: The voucher will not cover the value of specific promotions included in the original booking, including, without limitation, free private transfer, ancillary product sales such as duty free, destination excursions, tours, seat selection, travel insurance, e-boutique sales, and discretionary items such as connecting flights, airport parking or airport limousines and taxis.
Cancellation: The fee paid for the RainCheck plan is fully refundable [more than 10 days in advance of travel departure date or commencement of hotel-only booking] if you cancel your booking prior to departure. However, any other applicable cancellation penalties still apply.
Alteration of Services: In the event of any major changes to your booking initiated by you or the tour operator, RainCheck may be transferred to your new booking as long as the change is made outside 10 days of departure unless that destination is excluded from RainCheck in which case, the amount paid by you for the RainCheck will be refunded to you.
Flight Delays: In the event of a flight delay causing you to arrive later than the original schedule, the measurement will still commence on the original booking date for your package holiday or hotel-only booking.
Existing Bookings: The RainCheck plan may be purchased and added to existing bookings providing this is done more than 10 days in advance of travel departure date or commencement of hotel-only booking.
