BALTIC RAIL ADVENTURE - GOLDEN EAGLE TRAIN
Day 1 – Arrival – Vilnus, Lithuania
Arrival transfers to the train station with English speaking guides. Board the train
and get ready for your journey.

Day 2 – Vilnus
Today’s city tour of Vilnius features the Old Town, a UNESCO Heritage site, with it
endless church domes, steeples and gloriously restored buildings. The tour begins
at the Cathedral Square dominated by the Cathedral itself and Gediminas Castle,
the landmark of Vilnius, then via the President’s Palace to Vilnius University and
St. Anne’s Church. A short visit to private Amber Gallery will acquaint you to Baltic
“gold”. The tour ends in the Town Hall Square where you will enjoy lunch at a local
restaurant.
In the afternoon, travel to Trakai (28km), the former capital of the Grand Duchy of
Lithuania and one of the country’s oldest towns, now famous for its 15th century
red-brick gothic castle, built on one of the islets in Lake Galve. The castle of past
Lithuanian dukes now houses a museum of the local history and a huge collection
of objects d’arte including furniture, ceramics, snuff boxes and pipes.
Return to the train for dinner and overnight.

Day 3 – Klaipeda, Lithuania
The city tour today with your English speaking guide is focused on the Old Town
of KlaipÄ—da with its Theatre Square, narrow alleyways with attractive courtyards,
art galleries, cafes and small boutiques, blocks of lattice-work buildings and old
warehouses reflecting the influence of Germanic architecture of the Hanseatic
period. The tour continues to Palanga, Lithuania’s prime sea resort, 25 km away
from Klaipeda. The tour offers a visit to the Amber Museum, a walk in the Botanical
Park of Palanga with Birute’s Hill, a 22 metre high dune, the central street full of
souvenir shops, open air cafes which lead to the beach and the pier.
After crossing the Curonian Lagoon by short ferry ride, you reach the Curonian
Spit, a UNESCO World Heritage site, a sandy stretch of land which is 98 km long
and varying in width from 400 metres to just a few kilometres, between the waters
of the Curonian Lagoon and the Baltic Sea. The German writer Thomas Mann
had a summer house built here which now houses a museum and has remained a
meeting place for writers and intellectuals ever since.
This evening you will visit the Hill of Crosses, near Siauliai, an unforgettable site.
Despite the Soviets attempt to destroy the site, thousands of crosses stand on this
sacred ground. Return to the train for dinner and overnight.

Day 4 – Riga & Sigulda, Latvia
Today’s tour encompasses the most significant sights of Riga - the Dome Cathedral,
the Church of St. Peter, the old Guild Houses, the Swedish Gate, Old Riga Castle
and many wonderfully restored buildings which are now shops and restaurants/
cafes. Demonstration of organ at Dom Church for a 20 minute concert (except
Sundays).
One of the most picturesque towns in Latvia - Sigulda, often called the Latvian
Switzerland, is located about 50 km from Riga in the Gauja River valley. You
will travel by coach down into the river valley, enjoy the landscape and a walk to
the sandstone grottoes on the ancient river bank. Visit the 13th century Turaida
Castle and the “Garden of Gods” from the 30 metre high fortification tower.
Return to the train for dinner and overnight.

Day 5 – Tallinn, Estonia
Today’s city tour of Tallinn takes you to the surroundings of Tallinn and its Old
Town. Among other attractions, it includes a visit of Catherine’s Valley Park and
Palace, Toompea Hill and the Parliament building, Alexander Nevsky Cathedral
and the Dome Cathedral. Enjoy lunch in a medieval local restaurant.
This afternoon continue to the Estonian Open Air Museum housing windmills,
chapels and country pubs and is located about 10km from Tallinn located
in beautiful Rocca al Mare - Rock by the Sea. The museum gathers a fine
collection of 17th to 19th century rural architecture from all over the Estonia.
Return to the train for dinner and overnight.

Day 6 – Helsinki, Finland
This morning enjoy a ferry ride to Helsinki for a day excursion to Finland’s
capital. Enjoy lunch in a local restaurant before returning by ferry to Tallinn and
re-boarding your train for another delicious dinner.

Day 7 – St. Petersburg, Russia
Today’s train journey will take you into Russia and onto the final destination, the
imperial city of St. Petersburg. Transfer to a centrally located hotel for a 2 night
stay.

Day 8 – St. Petersburg, Russia
You will tour this magnificent city and visit Catherine the Great’s Summer
Palace in Pushkin, including the world-famous Amber Room. Lunch is at the
Podvorye Restaurant in Pavlovsk before returning for an afternoon tour of the
key sights including St Isaac’s Cathedral, Nevsky Prospect and the Hermitage
Museum, the former Palace of the Tsars, which houses the royal art collection
of over three million works. It is one of the world’s largest and most impressive
art museums.

Day 9 – St. Petersburg – Departure
Your Baltic Adventure concludes after breakfast and you are transferred to the
airport for your onward flight.
