UNDISCOVERED PEARLS OF NORTHERN RUSSIA
DAY 1 – Arrival – Petrozavodsk – Kizhi – Sortovala
(Train from St. Petersburg not included) Arrival in Petrozavodsk and meet your local
English speaking guide. Transfer to a restaurant for breakfast. Following breakfast
proceed on a tour of Petrozavodsk including the Governor’s Garden, Theatre Square,
the Onega Lake Shores with a unique open air museum of modern avant-garde
sculptures and a photo stop at the monument of Peter the Great. Take a hydrofoil
departing for Kizhi island in Lake Onego. Kizhi is world known for its wooden church
structures and is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Mid-afternoon you will return to
Petrozavodsk by hydrofoil. After dinner, you will board your minibus/coach to Sortavala
for the night.

DAY 2 – Sortavala – Valaam – Petrozavodsk
Depart for Valaam via hydrofoil. Valaam is the largest and finest island in Lake
Ladoga. One of the main monasteries of today’s Russia is the Transfiguration of
Christ located here. Attend the concert of the Valaam choir. After lunch a visit to “New
Jerusalem” in Nikon’s Bay will be included before returning to Petrozavodsk for the
night.

DAY 3 – Petrozavodsk – Kem
Depart by coach to Kem, a small town made up of predominantly wooden houses
and structures. Visit Kivatch Nature Reserve and the Kivatch waterfall. Lunch will be
held in Malaya Medveshka (Little Bear) Country Club where the buildings are made
up of local Karelian Birch and of local medicinal stone only found in this area. In the
afternoon you will continue on an excursion to the Petroglyphs of the White Sea.
Evening arrival in Kem for the night.

DAY 4 – Excursion to Solovky
Enjoy a 2 ½ hour boat trip to Solovky. Solovets Island houses an ancient monastery
of the 15-16th century. Lunch on Solovets Island followed by some free time before
returning to Kem by boat for the evening. Overnight Kem.

DAY 5 – Kem – St. Petersburg – Departure
Transfer this morning to the train station or airport.

Prices are per person, based on twin occupancy and in CAD:
